Choosing Colours for a Custom Netball Dress That Actually Works
Bold, on-brand and easy to spot from the umpire's view — colour theory and practical tips for designing your club's next netball dress or skort.
Why colour matters more than you think
Netball is a fast game played indoors and outdoors, often under mixed lighting. The right palette helps your team stand out on court, looks great on social media, and gives juniors something to be proud of wearing.
The two-colour rule
The strongest netball dresses use one dominant colour with one bold accent. Trying to fit three or four colours into a dress and bib panels usually muddies the look.
Good pairings:
- Black + neon (lime, pink, orange)
- Royal blue + white
- Burgundy + gold
- Teal + coral
Bib panel contrast is non-negotiable
Umpires need to read GA, GS, WD, etc. from across the court. Pick a bib panel colour that contrasts hard with the dress body — if your dress is navy, your bib panel should NOT be black.
Patterns that flatter a netball cut
Vertical lines, asymmetric panels and gradients all photograph beautifully. Avoid dense all-over prints behind the bib area — they fight the position letters.
Match the skort
If you offer a two-piece option (crop top + skort), keep the same artwork and palette so the squad looks unified whether players choose dress or two-piece.

How many colours should a netball dress have?
Stick to two — one dominant body colour and one strong accent for trim and bib panels. Three or more colours usually muddies the look.
